Metal Disc Couplings
A metal disc coupling – also called a steel lamina coupling – transmits torque through one or two packs of thin stainless steel discs bolted alternately to the two hubs. The pack bends to absorb misalignment while remaining extremely stiff in torsion. Nothing slides, nothing wears and nothing needs lubricating, which is why disc couplings are specified where a machine has to run for years without attention.
MISHKIN disc couplings are designed and rated to DIN 740-2 and ISO 14691, the European standard for flexible shaft couplings. Each size is defined by three torque figures rather than one: the nominal torque TKN that can be transmitted continuously over the whole speed range without fatigue of the disc pack, the alternating torque TKW that can be superimposed on it, and the maximum peak torque TKmax that may occur briefly without permanent deformation.
Three series cover the range. RIC is a lightweight aluminium servo coupling with clamping hubs, from 0.6 to 250 Nm, in single-disc and double-disc executions. REC is the conical-clamping execution for higher torques on large servo and gearbox shafts. RDC is the all-steel heavy-duty series, 15 to 9,000 Nm, for pumps, fans, compressors and mill drives.
Why MISHKIN disc couplings
Rated the European way. TKN, TKW and TKmax are stated separately to DIN 740-2 / ISO 14691, so the coupling can be checked against the real duty cycle instead of a single optimistic torque figure.
All-metal, maintenance-free. Disc packs are EN 1.4310 (AISI 301) stainless spring steel. The coupling runs from -30 °C to +270 °C with no elastomer, no grease and no wear part to replace.
Zero backlash throughout life. Torque is transmitted by friction and bolt shear through clamped disc packs. There is no clearance to take up, so reversing duties stay accurate.
Explosion-protection option. The all-metal design is available for ATEX 2014/34/EU (EN ISO 80079-36) zones as Ex h IIC T6..T4 – relevant for dust and solvent-laden plants.

• Complete per-size dimension and performance tables for every series are in the catalogue; the two series pages linked above carry the selection data that is most often asked for.
• Double-disc (spacer) types accept roughly twice the radial and axial misalignment of the single-disc type of the same size.
